Incidents and chaos engineering
An incident is when something in production breaks badly enough that people must drop what they’re doing to fix it, and incident management is the practiced routine for handling that calmly. Responders take clear roles: an incident commander who coordinates and decides, people investigating and fixing, and someone communicating with users and stakeholders, with the first priority being to stop the damage, often by rolling back, before finding the root cause. Afterwards, a blameless postmortem records the timeline, impact, causes and follow-up actions, focusing on how the system allowed the mistake rather than who made it. Chaos engineering is the rehearsal: deliberately injecting failures, like killing servers, to find weaknesses before a real incident does.
