Fleet telemetry and command
Fleet telemetry and command is the system behind a fleet of physical devices, such as drones, delivery robots or power-grid equipment: devices continuously report their state up to the cloud, and operators send commands back down. The cloud often keeps a “digital twin” of each device, its last known state plus the desired state, which helps when connectivity is patchy. What makes it different from ordinary web systems is that devices act in the physical world, so they must stay safe when the cloud is unreachable, with a local fail-safe like landing, stopping or holding position. Commands also need care: they should be acknowledged, safe to repeat, and expire, so a delayed “go” doesn’t run long after it made sense.
In this lesson: A digital twin of a drone, robot or grid-device fleet. Kill the control plane and verify devices fall back to fail-safes.
